CACHANO ORCHARD

TRADITIONAL FARMING

One of the main characteristics of our work in the fields is our use of traditional farming, just like our ancestors taught us.

In the cachano orchard we mainly apply this traditional method of farming by following the lunar cycles in the work we do.

In the case of pruning, we perform the work when there is a new moon or an old moon, depending on whether the tree needs to develop more branches and leaves or produce more fruit or roots.
Similarly, we also grow our crops based on IPM (Integrated Pest Management), allowing us to manage various pests and creatures that attack trees by introducing natural predators and fully minimising the use of chemicals. For example, we combat aphids by releasing ladybirds which feed on aphids. We also use other methods that preserve the environmental balance.

THREE GENERATIONS OF GROWING FRUIT TREES

1960

The Cachanos

We are the Palau family, nicknamed The Cachanos in agricultural circles. Originally from Borriol, a small village in Castellón, this is where we have all of the fruit tree farms that we currently run.

1980

From generation to generation

The family’s farming activity was started by our grandfather Batiste, Grandpa Cachano, who started the business with orange, almond and carob trees. Production was later passed down to the next generation, his son Batiste, Batiste the Cachano, who continued running the business. And the farms are currently managed and worked by David Palau, David the Cachano, who is the third generation of farmers.

Today and always

Nowadays, we continue to cultivate the land in the same way as past generations, as this is the traditional method that we have lived and grown up with throughout our lives.

2019

We keep growing … 4th Generation

It is our goal to continue doing things properly, in a traditional and sustainable way, and to continue offering the very best product through the fourth generation of our family, which is now represented by young Marc. We want to carry on working and cultivating our grandparents’ land so that you can enjoy the smell, colour and taste of our fruit in your homes, as if you’d grown it yourself.
